Houston Astros’ Yordan Álvarez is having one the best offensive seasons we have seen in years while attempting to carry the Astros to another American League West division title.
The Astros currently hold a 71-69 record, leading the struggling division by only two games, with most of their production coming from the MVP front-runner.
On the season, the 29-year-old is slashing .316/.433/.602, good for a 1.035 OPS, with 37 home runs, 94 RBI, 97 walks and 157 hits across 139 games.
He is currently in line to win the first Triple Crown by a hitter since Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera in 2012.
Álvarez hit a unique milestone on Thursday against the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox intentional walked Álvarez in the fourth inning, marking his 30th of the season.
He becomes the sixth player in American League history to be intentional walked 30+ times in one season and is nearing Aaron Judge’s record with 36 in 2025.
With many teams walking Álvarez recently to stunt the Astros offense, this record is extremely likely for the young slugger.
