The Pittsburgh Steelers had a very busy 2026 offseason. They not only hired a new head coach, but also made a number of roster changes while bringing back their quarterback from 2025. There’s been a mixed reaction to their offseason, but one key figure highlighted two transactions he was pleased to see. Steelers President Art Rooney II discussed the key trade and the return of Aaron Rodgers.
Rooney discussed the trade for Michael Pittman Jr. and the decision to retain Rodgers as two key moves of the offseason. Needless to say, he seemed pleased, as they were the primary moves he discussed during his time with the media.
“Signing Michael Pittman, I think, was a big move for us … We wanted to get some depth into that wide receiver room, and, of course, bringing Aaron Rodgers back for round two here is going to be interesting and fun.” Rooney said.

Rooney highlighting the Pittman trade shouldn’t come as a surprise. It was one of the Steelers’ biggest moves of the offseason. It addressed a need on an offense that lacked consistent depth at wide receiver last season.
Pittman gives Pittsburgh a proven, steady target to line up opposite DK Metcalf. The Steelers now have a much deeper receiver room than they did a year ago, giving Rodgers more reliable options in the passing game.
Metcalf should remain the big-play threat, while Pittman can provide consistency underneath and in the intermediate areas of the field. That combination could give Rodgers the type of receiving corps he didn’t have during his first season with Pittsburgh.
Will Rooney see his team make a run?
Rooney has acknowledged in the past that the Steelers’ stagnant postseason results haven’t met the franchise’s standard. Pittsburgh has struggled to make meaningful progress in the playoffs, making this season another important opportunity for the organization.
The Steelers believe Rodgers can help change that. Bringing him back gives Pittsburgh an experienced quarterback, while adding Pittman and making other key roster moves should give the offense more support.
Whether that translates into a deep playoff run remains to be seen, but Rooney’s optimism suggests the Steelers believe they have put themselves in position to make one. Now, they have to prove it on the field.
