Arch Manning and No. 5 Texas entered Saturday’s matchup against Texas State looking for an opportunity to build some early-season momentum, but there was an unexpected development involving one of the Longhorns’ most important offensive weapons during pregame warmups.
Texas wide receiver Cam Coleman was noticeably late joining the team’s quarterbacks and receivers on the field, according to CJ Vogel of On Texas Football. Coleman eventually ran routes after the rest of the position groups had already returned to the locker room, and Vogel also observed what appeared to be some sort of tape or wrap on Coleman’s left hand.
There has been no indication that Coleman will be unavailable against Texas State, and the pregame observation could ultimately prove insignificant. Still, anything involving Coleman is worth monitoring considering the role he’s expected to play alongside Manning in the Texas offense.
“#Texas WR Cam Coleman was late to the field for QB/WR warmups during pregame,” Vogel reported on X.
Vogel added that Coleman ran routes with MJ Morris throwing to him after the other quarterbacks and receivers had left the field.
“Looked like some sort of wrap/tape on his left hand,” Vogel wrote. “Could be nothing, could be something.”
Cam Coleman Is Major Weapon for Arch Manning
The uncertainty surrounding the situation makes it important not to jump to conclusions about Coleman’s status.
There was no reported diagnosis attached to Vogel’s observation, and Coleman participating in individual route work is noteworthy. The situation nevertheless bears watching as Texas prepares to play Texas State.
Coleman was one of the biggest additions to the Longhorns’ offense this offseason.
The former Auburn standout transferred to Texas after establishing himself as one of college football’s most talented young receivers. Coleman recorded 56 receptions for 708 yards and five touchdowns for Auburn in 2025 before entering the transfer portal and eventually landing with the Longhorns.
His arrival gave Manning another potentially elite target as Texas attempts to contend for the SEC championship and College Football Playoff.
That’s what makes Saturday’s pregame development notable.
Big Season Ahead for Longhorns
Manning and Coleman have an entire season to develop their chemistry, and there is currently no reason to characterize the receiver’s taped hand as a significant issue.
For now, it is simply something to monitor.
But with Coleman expected to play such a prominent role in Texas’ offense, Longhorns fans will undoubtedly be watching closely once the game begins.
