The Los Angeles Angels are continuing their trade deadline fire sale.
One day after the Halos traded reliever Chase Silseth and catcher Logan O'Hoppe to the Texas Rangers, MLB insider Francys Romero reported that the Angels are in trade talks with multiple other teams, notably the New York Yankees. The talks are centered around outfielders Jo Adell and Jorge Soler, and Romero mentioned that both could be traded within the next few hours.
Adell, 27, has spent his entire career in the Angels organization after being selected as the 10th overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft. The outfielder hasn't lived up to his billing, but still showed flashes of brilliance in his seven major league seasons. He belted a career-high 37 home runs in 2025, and currently has 16 homers in 108 games this year. Despite otherwise poor defensive metrics, Adell made history on April 5 by recording three home run robberies against the Seattle Mariners.
As for Soler, the 34-year-old is currently in the final year of a three-year, $42 million contract (originally signed with the San Francisco Giants) and carries a $13 million salary in 2026. He's largely struggled this year, hitting .205/.295/.377 with 12 home runs, an 87 wRC+ and -0.5 fWAR in 84 games.
Nonetheless, Soler has been a great postseason performer in his career, most notably winning World Series MVP with the Atlanta Braves in 2021. His 1.027 OPS in 30 career playoff games could make him attractive to a contender if he begins to heat up.
The Angels currently have the worst record in the American League at 42-67 and already fired general manager Perry Minasian on June 26. With John Mozeliak now in charge, Los Angeles is listening to offers on a majority of their players, save for Mike Trout; some notable players in trade rumors include Jose Soriano, Reid Detmers and Zach Neto.
A number of buyers like the Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies are searching for right-handed hitting outfielders. The Yankees are currently without Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger, while the Phillies have lacked adequate production from their outfield for a vast majority of the season. With the Angels having two in Adell and Soler, they will look to capitalize on this niche market.
