The Los Angeles Angels earned a competitive 8-7 win over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. However, Mike Trout exited the game after getting hit by a pitch. According to Rhett Bollinger, Angels manager Kurt Suzuki said the X-rays were negative and that the outfielder is considered day-to-day with a contusion. Nevertheless, it was still a frightening moment, especially since Trout has dealt with injury trouble over the years.
Trout commented on the hit-by-pitch and injury scare after the game.
"How swollen it got kind of scared me a little bit," Trout said. "Just relieved... Not broken. We know where they're trying to get me out, you know, fastballs up and in. It's just frustrating. Can't control it out there, shouldn't do it. So, is what it is."
Trout is thankful that the injury is not more serious. Still, he admitted that there is frustration. He was hit by a pitch earlier in the series as well by the Mariners.
The Angels star continued by revealing what he initially thought following Sunday's hit-by-pitch.
"It didn't feel good when it happened," Trout said. "And then when I looked down it was already swelled up. When I couldn't get my glove off... It doesn't feel terrible right now. Trying to get the swelling down."
Angels Hopeful Mike Trout Can Return Soon

Trout, 34, is hitting .212/.435/.424 across 10 games played so far in 2026. He has hit two home runs and recorded three RBIs as well. The three-time MVP may not be the same player he once was, but Trout is still more than capable of making a significant impact on the field.
The Angels now hold a 5-5 overall record after defeating the Mariners. They are one game behind the Houston Astros for first place in the American League West. The Angels have not reached the postseason since the 2014 campaign. 2014 also represents Trout's only postseason appearance of his career.
Trout is on track to earn a Hall of Fame induction someday. He is going to be remembered as one of the better outfielders to ever play the game of baseball when he retires. With that being said, Trout would love to build up his postseason resume before he walks away from baseball.
For now, all the Angels can do is focus on their next game. Mike Trout and the team will host the Atlanta Braves on Monday night at 9:38 PM EST.
