The Los Angeles Angels sadly confirmed Friday that former All-Star slugger Garret Anderson has passed away at 53.

Anderson played for the Angels from 1994-2008 before having brief stints with the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers. The 2002 World Series champion and two-time Silver Slugger winner finished his MLB career with a .293 average, 287 homers and 1,365 RBI.

In 2011, Anderson announced his retirement from the MLB. Five years later, he was inducted into the Angels' Hall of Fame.

According to TMZ, Anderson suffered a medical emergency at his Newport Beach home on Thursday. As you'd imagine, the Angels are devastated over this tragic loss.

"We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Angels Hall of Famer Garret Anderson," the Angels said in a statement. "Garret will forever hold a special place in the hearts of Angels fans for his professionalism, class, and loyalty throughout his career and beyond. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the entire Anderson family."

Garret was a cornerstone of our organization throughout his 15 seasons and his stoic presence in the outfield and our clubhouse elevated the Angels into an era of continued success, highlighted by the 2002 World Series Championship. Garret will forever hold a special place in the hearts of Angels fans for his professionalism, class, and loyalty throughout his career and beyond.
