Angel Reese shared her nickname for her Team USA teammate Chelsea Gray. The Atlanta Dream forward and Las Vegas Aces guard are representing the USA at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
The WNBA stars are in Berlin, Germany, to defend Team USA’s gold medal. The Americans have won the tournament four times in a row, from 2010 until 2022. Gray helped USA bring home the gold in the 2022 tournament in Australia.
This time around, she is joined by first-time senior World Cup teammates such as Reese, Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers, to mention a few. Reese, in particular, was a teammate of Gray in the Unrivaled League.
Gray and Reese both suited up for Rose BC, winning the inaugural Unrivaled championship in 2025. The Aces star brought home the Finals MVP of the tournament. The duo played alongside fellow Team USA teammate Kahleah Copper. She was the one to give Gray the nickname “Lakeisha”.
The four-time WNBA Champion posted photos of herself in full Team USA gear on Instagram on Thursday. Reese left a comment on the post, sharing Gray’s nickname.
“lakeishaaaaaaa,” the 6-foot-4 forward wrote.
At the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup, Team USA began its gold medal defense with a dominant 94-61 victory over China. Gray chipped in five points, while Reese scored five points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
They will face Italy on Sunday for their second game. Team USA will then close out its group stage games when it faces the Czech Republic on Monday. Many expect the Americans to sweep Group D and secure a spot in the quarterfinals.
