In a surprising move, the Chicago Sky agreed to trade star forward Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream on Monday. The deal marks a shift for Chicago, moving away from the era defined by Reese’s record-breaking contributions.
The Sky selected Reese in the first round of the 2024 WNBA Draft after a national championship win in 2023 with the LSU Tigers. The 23-year-old quickly established herself as one of the league’s top rebounders.
In her rookie season, Reese appeared in all 34 games, averaging 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game. She earned an All-Star nod, finished as runner-up for Rookie of the Year and even received an MVP vote. She also set a WNBA record with 15 consecutive double-doubles in 2024 and led the league in offensive rebounds with 172.

In her second season, Reese missed multiple games, appearing in 30 contests, but continued to dominate the boards. She averaged 14.7 points and 12.6 rebounds, maintaining her reputation as a force in the paint. Reese is the only player in WNBA history to average at least 12.0 rebounds per game in a season.
The WNBA's rebounding leader called the trade “an Angel’s dream.” She celebrated it on Instagram by sharing two photos of herself wearing a red Atlanta jersey. Reese captioned the post, “ATL WHAT UP?!"
Sky teammate Kamilla Cardoso shared Reese’s post on her Instagram story. As a heartfelt farewell, she wrote, “twin tower always & forever! Go be great 5 ❤️,” in the caption.
Reese quickly responded via her Instagram Story: "Love you twin! always rooting for you🤍."
Reese and Cardoso became known as the “Twin Towers” for their dominant frontcourt play. At 6-foot-3 and 6-foot-7, the pair used their size and strength to dominate the paint. Their rebounding and defense helped the Sky control the boards and the pace of games.
Reese and Cardoso’s play cemented them as one of the WNBA’s most formidable duos and a fan-favorite frontcourt pairing. Despite their performance, the Sky missed the postseason in both of their first two seasons.
With the Sky struggling as a team, Reese openly criticized the franchise’s direction during the 2025 season. Now, as she joins a title contender, her latest social media post shows she’s thrilled about the fresh start.
