The 2025 NFL season saw Patrick Mahomes endure his first losing season and end with a torn ACL and LCL. Now, less than six months later, his head coach has some surprising news about his status.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid stated that he expects Mahomes to participate in the team's upcoming OTAs later this month. He acknowledged that it may be on a limited basis during the no-contact periods, but expects that he'll be able to accept contact soon.

"He is in a good position to be able to do some things," Reid said, via ESPN's Nate Taylor. "If he can do some things, [he 'll do it]. Phase 2 [of the offseason program], remember, there's no contact and there's no offense versus defense. It's Phase 3 that you get into that... He's in a position where he can do everything, I think."

Unbelievable or not-believable?

NFL fans seemed a bit mixed on the news that Mahomes was back on track after suffering a torn ACL, which often requires upwards of nine months to heal from. Some called it a testament to Mahomes' strength and the advances in medical technology, while others started to wonder if Mahomes was ever hurt as bad as the team made him out to be:

"Faked an injury trying to save face in the worst season of his career... 'Can't count that season I was 'injured,'" one user mocked.

"Mahomes is BUILT DIFFERENT! On track for OTAs after that knee surgery? The GOAT is back and Chiefs Kingdom is eating GOOD this year," another declared.

"We all know he was never hurt in the first place," wrote a third.

"Do people realize how insane this is? Modern medicine is absolutely incredible, 12-15 years ago this would’ve been a potential career ending injury and now you’re out 6 months and back for OTAs? Unbelievable."

Of course, we can't exactly say that Mahomes is truly "back" until he's taking snaps in a real game where the hits are allowed.

We might not find out for sure until sometime in July or even August if Mahomes is really healthy enough to throw the ball when the snaps are live and the pass rush is coming right for him.
