Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark set a number of records in her FIBA World Cup debut with Team USA. After posting 14 points and 11 assists in the team’s 94-61 win over China, Clark became the first player in the tournament’s history to have at least 10 assists without a single turnover.
Clark is also the first Team USA player in 28 years to record 10 or more assists in a FIBA Women’s World Cup game. The last American to do it was Dawn Staley, who had 12 assists against Russia in 1998.
Furthermore, Clark is just the eighth player in history to have more than 10 dimes in a World Cup game. The stat was first officially recorded in 1994.
It’s also worth noting that Clark surpassed fellow WNBA star Alyssa Thomas for the most assists by a Team USA player in a World Cup debut. According to FIBA, Thomas previously set the record in 2022, when she had nine assists against Belgium.

What Other Records Can Caitlin Clark Break in the FIBA World Cup?
Considering that Team USA is loaded with talent, it’s unlikely that she’ll be able to break the single-game scoring record in tournament history. The record belongs to Brazilian legend Hortencia Marcari, who scored 46 points in a game in 1983.
However, Clark should be more than capable of breaking the assists record owned by Belgium’s Julie Allemand and Japan’s Yuka Harada, who had 13 assists each in a game.
Given the offensive firepower of Team USA and the fact that Clark just had 11 assists, it’s not hard to see her dishing out 14 assists in this year’s FIBA World Cup.
A triple-double is also not out of the question since she already had a double-double in her debut. If she’s able to achieve the feat, she would only be the second player in the tournament’s history to do so after Slovakian legend Erika Dobrovicova.
