Kelsey Mitchell made a lot of waves throughout the WNBA this season. The Indiana Fever star elevated her game once again, emerging as one of the league’s best scorers and establishing herself as a legitimate MVP candidate.
Mitchell averaged 24.7 points, 1.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.0 steals in 44 games played this campaign. She ended the regular season as the second-best scorer in the WNBA, behind only A’ja Wilson.
Mitchell helped lead the Fever to a 28-16 record, good for sixth in the WNBA standings.
Unsurprisingly, Mitchell’s hard work has turned a lot of heads in her direction. In fact, Slam Magazine selected the Fever star to be the cover athlete of the SLAM 264 issue.

“After nine years of relentless work, Kelsey Mitchell is playing the best basketball of her career and establishing herself as a true MVP candidate. The spotlight’s shining brighter than ever as she stars on the cover of SLAM 264,” Slam wrote in the announcement.
Mitchell’s career news drew plenty of reaction, including one from her Fever teammate Aliyah Boston. On her podcast with WNBA icon Candace Parker, Boston doubled down on how she feels about Mitchell’s magazine cover.
“She looks so tea,” Boston excitedly said. “We were like, ‘That’s hard.’ Literally, that’s so hard.”
Mitchell entered the WNBA as the Fever’s second overall pick in the 2018 Draft. Since then, she has earned four All-Star nods, a result of her years of hard work, especially during seasons when the Fever weren’t winning a lot of games.
The timing could not be better for Mitchell, as she prepares for another postseason run with the Fever. With her popularity continuing to grow off the court, the veteran guard is finally receiving the recognition she deserves.
