Kelsey Mitchell failed to extend her 20-point streak in the Indiana Fever’s final game of the regular season, scoring only 10 points as the team lost to the Minnesota Lynx 86-66. Still, she capped the regular season with historic numbers, as she officially finished the campaign with 1,086 points.
The Fever made sure to honor Mitchell, highlighting that her scoring total is the most in a single season in WNBA history. The 30-year-old guard surpassed A’ja Wilson’s previous record of 1,021 points when Indiana returned to action against the Toronto Tempo last week, and she only added more to her tally over the team’s last three games.
“MVP Kelz is rewriting the record books,” the Fever wrote on social media. “Kelsey Mitchell finishes the regular season as the WNBA’s leading scorer with 1,086 points, the most in a single-season in league history.”

Sure enough, several fans expressed delight over Mitchell’s historic season, with many others heaping praise on her. Among those who shared their admiration for Mitchell was Fever star Aliyah Boston, who had a simple but powerful message for her Indiana teammate.
“goat talk,” Boston wrote, as she shared the Fever’s post on her Instagram stories. “GOAT” is an acronym for “Greatest Of All Time.”
Mitchell certainly deserves the recognition she’s getting. After all, no guard in WNBA history has accomplished what she did this season.
The Fever star is the first guard in the league ever to record 1,000 points in a season. Aside from that, she set several other WNBA records, such as the most triples in a single season (135), along with the most 20-point games in a campaign (35).
