The first 36 holes at PGA Frisco gave every competitor one round on each course. The final 36 remove that balance.
Alexa Takai and Kailer Stone will begin the third round of the 50th Junior PGA Championships at 9-under 135, leading the girls and boys divisions, respectively. Neither owns more than a two-shot advantage, and both now face the harder half of the equation.
The championship moves exclusively to Fields Ranch East for Thursday and Friday. Only 36 under-par rounds were recorded there across the boys and girls divisions during the opening two days, making the course a clear separator before the field ever returns for the decisive rounds.
That changes the competitive assignment.
The leaders no longer need to compare scores produced on two courses with different personalities. They must protect narrow advantages on a layout that punishes loose tee shots, misplaced approaches and the impatience that often arrives when young players see opportunity on the leaderboard.

Takai Turns Precision Into the Girls’ Lead
The first cut reduced the field to 127 players, with 62 girls advancing at 4 over or better and 65 boys moving forward at 2 over or better.
Another cut follows the third round, when each division will be reduced to the low 30 players and ties for Friday’s conclusion.
That creates two separate races Thursday.
The leaders will be playing for position entering the final round. Much of the remaining field will be trying to secure the right to return.
Charlie Woods survived the boys’ cut by one shot after a second-round 70 moved him to 1-over 145 and a tie for 46th. He is safely into Thursday, but his first task will be climbing inside the top 30 before a potential final-round run can become relevant.
The championship’s final two rounds will be streamed through the PGA of America. Thursday’s coverage begins at 3 p.m. CT, with Friday’s final-round coverage beginning at 11 a.m. CT.
Takai and Stone earned the privilege of beginning the second half in front. What they did not earn was room to relax.
Two shots separate the first five girls. Three shots separate the first seven boys. Every remaining round will be played on the course that has offered the fewest easy numbers.
The opening 36 holes identified the leaders. Fields Ranch East will determine whether they can remain there.
