The Philadelphia Phillies were eliminated from the postseason by the Atlanta Braves in Game 3 of the Wild Card Thursday night. The club’s lack of hitting came back to bite them in a 6-2 loss.
2026 marked the fifth year in a row that the Phillies made the postseason. However, the club keeps going backwards in what round they lose in. The Wild Card round marks their earliest playoff exit yet on just Oct. 1.
One hitter that is not to blame for the team’s defeat at the hands of the rival Braves would be corner infielder Alec Bohm. Much maligned in Philadelphia across parts of his tenure, the 30-year-old went 4-for-13 including a go-ahead home run during the 10th inning of Game 2.
Bohm is set to be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his now seven-year MLB career. On Thursday, he told Ty Daubert of Phillies Nation that he wants to come back to Philadelphia and “be a part of the team that gets it done.”
Across 155 games this season, Bohm slashed .249/.315/.383 (.698 OPS) with 15 home runs and 88 RBIs. After a dreadful first half, the infielder somewhat salvaged his numbers with an .808 OPS in the second half.
Defensively, the 30-year-old did have his struggles. Bohm put up a cumulative -11 outs above average while logging time at first and third base. Outside of a few average seasons, he has not been that great of a defender.
If this is it for Bohm’s career in Philadelphia, the club’s former No. 1 prospect certainly had a polarizing tenure. In 874 total games, he mashed 85 home runs with 172 doubles and a perfectly average .735 OPS.

If he tests the open market, it is likely that his second half performance may have earned him some extra years and money a potential free agent deal. Bohm has a fairly reliable bat year over year.
The infielder did say the Phillies have unfinished business, however. It is true that their contention window may be closing, so perhaps he could come back to the team for “win now” purposes, but anything could happen.
