The Dallas Cowboys have placed the franchise tag on George Pickens for the 2026 season, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll be suiting up for "America's Team" when Week 1 arrives.

Dallas wisely traded a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for Pickens. He rewarded the Cowboys' front office with 93 catches for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns.

Even though Pickens had an incredible 2025 season, Dallas isn't exactly eager to give him a long-term contract. ESPN's Adam Schefter provided an update on their negotiations during Wednesday morning's episode of "Get Up."

As of now, Schefter said the Cowboys are going "nowhere" in contract talks with Pickens. He also mentioned that Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson is on Jerry Jones' radar.

Maybe, just maybe, the Cowboys will draft Pickens' replacement on Thursday night.

"They’re nowhere with George Pickens right now," Schefter said. "Nowhere with George Pickens. They're not really talking about an extension, they're not close to an extension. He's on the franchise tag. That situation is just sitting out there. The Cowboys are said to really like Jordyn Tyson, so it's just one more subplot for a draft filled with them."

The front office in Dallas has commented on Pickens' future.

Cowboys chief operation officer Stephen Jones was asked about a potential Pickens trade while on 105.3 The Fan this Tuesday.

"You hate to get into things like that, but no, we've had no one call with interest in George Pickens," Jones said.

Just because the Cowboys didn't receive calls for Pickens doesn't mean they're against trading him. If the right offer comes around later this week, a deal could happen.

For now though, Pickens is on track to play the 2026 season on a one-year deal.
