The Los Angeles Chargers have not yet hit the panic button despite their 0-5 start, but changes could be coming if they don’t turn their season around.
While on NFL Network this Wednesday, Ian Rapoport addressed Jim Harbaugh’s future as the head coach of the Chargers. He reassured fans that Los Angeles won’t fire its head coach in the middle of the season.
“My understanding is Jim Harbaugh is not in trouble as of right now,” Rapoport said. “I just don’t get the sense that anything is being considered right now.”
Although the Chargers aren’t interested in firing Harbaugh mid-season, it’s possible they move on from offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. They could, in theory, replace him with former Miami Dolphins and New York Jets coach Adam Gase.
“Mike McDaniel’s offense, which they had such high hopes for, hasn’t delivered at all. If that continues, they do have someone inside the building who has been a really successful offensive coordinator in Adam Gase.”

The Chargers are lifeless on offense right now.
Through the first five weeks of the 2026 season, the Chargers have the most giveaways in the NFL. Their issues on offense have been exposed in the second half of every game.
The Chargers in the fourth quarter rank last in points per game, total touchdowns and penalties. Justin Herbert hasn’t looked sharp at all in McDaniel’s system, completing 59.4% of his passes for 937 yards with five touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Things won’t get easier for the Chargers as they have a date with the Kansas City Chiefs coming up.
If the Chargers drop to 0-6 this Sunday, they may have no choice but to see what Gase can do as their offensive play-caller.
