The Las Vegas Aces and Indiana Fever engaged in an intense matchup at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Thursday.
The defending WNBA champions overcame a 20-point deficit to secure a narrow 86-84 win. The Aces leaned on 2025 WNBA MVP A'ja Wilson, who posted 26 points and 13 rebounds.
Jackie Young had 22 points, four rebounds and nine assists for Las Vegas. Chelsea Gray was the star of the night after making the game-tying three-pointer to send the game to overtime. Gray also made the game-winning basket after a crucial steal by Wilson late in the extra period. The Aces guard finished with 11 points, seven assists and four steals.
Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 28 points, while Aliyah Boston added a 21-point, 12-rebound double-double. Caitlin Clark contributed 20 points and eight assists for Indiana.
Despite the Fever blowing their 20-point lead, Aces head coach Becky Hammon still gave Clark and Co. their flowers.
“That team right there is a three-headed monster,” Hammon said. "Caitlin (Clark), Kelsey (Mitchell) and Aliyah (Boston) are an absolute nightmare for any defense.
“They’re just super skilled. They’re all three-level scorers. They’re willing passers.”
The 2025 WNBA Commissioner’s Cup champions still have a good shot at making the postseason. They’re currently tied at fifth with the Dallas Wings in the WNBA standings with a 19-12 record.
The Aces, on the other hand, are only 2.5 games behind the league-best Minnesota Lynx. They have a chance to close the gap as they face the Lynx on Saturday at Target Center.
