The Dallas Cowboys are coming off back-to-back losses to the Packers and Buccaneers and the offense has been downright rough in long stretches of those games. But head coach Brian Schottenheimer doesn’t see a need to make a seismic change to how he runs the team.
Appearing on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, Schottenheimer was asked if he would consider giving up his play-calling duties to try and shake things up. But Schottenheimer was not at all receptive to the idea.
Schottenheimer declared that he’s “an elite play-caller” in the NFL and believes that he can turn things around before the season gets out of hand.
“No, absolutely not,” Schottenheimer said, via Nick Harris. “I have incredible confidence in our offense. We have not played well the last two weeks, we have addressed a lot of the reasons why. We haven’t changed who we are. We are still a good explosive offense with weapons. We can hurt you a lot of different ways. I certainly haven’t lost the ability to call plays. I’m an elite play-caller in this league, and it can change around quickly.”
Not the Place to Be
Since taking over as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys in 2025, Schottenheimer has spent a grand total of one week with a record above .500. He’s 9-13-1 overall.
But for the most part, the offense hasn’t been a problem. The Cowboys still rank 12th in points scored and are 13th in yards.
Among the biggest culprits for their losses are the turnovers and the defense. The Cowboys are (predictably) 0-3 in games where they lose the turnover battle and 0-4 in games where they commit any turnovers.

Meanwhile, the defense ranks in the bottom 10 for the second year in a row and is on pace to give up over 450 points, which would be a bottom-five season in Dallas’ storied history.
Schottenheimer needs to figure something out before team owner Jerry Jones figures it out for him.
