Aalyah Mysterio has given WWE fans another reason to wonder when she will make her in-ring debut. Rey Mysterio’s daughter shared the poster for tonight’s NXT Women’s Championship No. 1 Contender’s Battle Royal on her Instagram Story, sparking speculation that she could be involved in the show.
Aalyah, whose real name is Aalyah Gutierrez, has been gradually moving toward a career in professional wrestling after spending years around WWE through her father and brother, Dominik Mysterio. Her path became more serious after she graduated from college, with Rey revealing earlier this year that she had already spent time training at the WWE Performance Center and at Natalya and Tyson Kidd’s Dungeon.
The WWE Hall of Famer said in February that Aalyah had been interested in getting into the ring but that he wanted her to finish college first. He also revealed that she had made a trip to the Performance Center the previous year and quickly took to the basics, including positioning and working the ropes. The next step was expected to be a full week of training to see whether she wanted to pursue wrestling seriously.
That development eventually led to a much bigger step. On September 17, WWE announced Aalyah as part of its latest Performance Center rookie class alongside Cara Brown, Katie Reynolds, Zoë Sager, Ana da Silva, Jackson Goonrey and Tyran Tuckey. WWE’s announcement officially placed her in the company’s developmental system.
Her Instagram Story has now added another layer to the situation. Aalyah shared the promotional poster for the 20-woman battle royal taking place on NXT, even though she is not one of the officially announced entrants. That does not confirm that she will compete, but the timing of the post has naturally led to speculation about a possible appearance.
Aalyah Mysterio’s WWE Training Has Been Building Toward Her Debut
The Battle Royal is set to feature women from NXT, RAW, SmackDown, EVOLVE, TNA and AAA, with the winner earning a shot at Kelani Jordan’s NXT Women’s Championship at Halloween Havoc on October 31. The match is a 20-woman over-the-top-rope Battle Royal, giving WWE an unusually broad field of talent from across its partner and developmental brands.
Aalyah’s recent training has also put her alongside other wrestling prospects. She has been associated with Sherilyn Guerrero, daughter of Eddie and Vickie Guerrero, while established WWE names including Bayley and Roxanne Perez have also been part of training sessions involving the newer talents.
Aalyah has already appeared on WWE television in the past, including during the storyline involving Rey and Dominik, but tonight would represent something different. She is now entering WWE as a Performance Center recruit with wrestling training behind her.
For now, her Instagram post is only a tease. WWE has not announced Aalyah as a participant in the battle royal, leaving fans to wait and see whether the Mysterio name appears on NXT in a new capacity tonight.
