2-time major champion Justin Thomas has long-been Tiger Woods' good pal, with the two respecting one another's competitiveness and passion for the game, leading to a sibling-like relationship that extends beyond the course.
While Thomas idolized Woods growing up — like most 30-something golfers did — Woods saw something in JT that led to a mentor-student kind of friendship, with the 15-time major champ always offering golf tips to his buddy.
Given Thomas and Woods' strong bond, naturally, Justin has become close with Tiger's teenage son, Charlie Woods, and is now acting as a mentor to the future college player (Charlie committed to Florida State University earlier this year).
With that mentorship comes some playful teasing, with Thomas firing a little quip towards Charlie on a recent podcast appearance.
What Justin Thomas Said About Tiger Woods' Son, Charlie
During Justin Thomas' interview with Smylie Kaufman, the two discussed JT's relationship with the 17-year-old Charlie, with Kaufman asking if he's now taken Tiger's son under his wing as the younger Woods continues his golf career.
Said Thomas, "I wanna be if he wants me to be. I was very lucky to have some people like that in my life and I know how helpful that was… I wanna help in any way I can."
Thomas continued by praising Charlie's golf game, saying he's got skills that many PGA Tour players don't even have.
"The shots that he can hit, a lot of guys on Tour can’t hit," Thomas added. "He’s very, very impressive and I’m hoping for the best for him."
But Thomas quickly pulled back his admiration, and made sure he didn't give Charlie too much of an inflated ego.
"He’s grown up a lot, [but] he’s still a little punk — not a total punk kid," Thomas quipped. "He can beat me up, so I can’t say too much."
Spoken like a true older brother figure right there, huh?
Who knows how good Charlie Woods will ultimately be? But with legends like his dad, Tiger Woods, and Justin Thomas part of his support system, he's clearly got the best in the business to share golf tips and info with — and, as this interview proved, keep him humble at the same time.
