The U.S. high school sports community continues to mourn.
Over the past several weeks, multiple U.S. high school athletes have died in tragic accidents. That number reached eight this week. Eight promising U.S. high school athletes have died in tragic accidents.
An eighth player, high school football player Jaren Lawson, was killed in an accident at practice this week. He collapsed and died during a training drill.
"Early findings indicate no evidence that Jaren informed his coaching staff of an inability to participate in practice," district spokesperson Barry Perez said.
The school district released a statement.
"Northside ISD is committed to a transparent and exhaustive investigation," he said. "We ask for the community's continued patience as we work to verify every detail, ensuring that all final conclusions are based on a complete and accurate record of events."

He was the eighth U.S. high school athlete to die in a tragic accident.
Previously, three U.S. high school athletes were killed in sledding accidents, while two were killed in car accidents and two were killed in a train crash.
The three high school athletes killed in sledding accidents happened in Texas, while two others were killed in car accidents in Tennessee and California.
Tragically, two were killed in a train crash in Texas, too.
“At approximately 2:45 this afternoon, troopers were dispatched to FM 18 and County Road 243," said a Sergeant of Texas Department of Public Safety, Marc Couch. "On the north side of that intersection is the entrance to a private driveway. A Ford F-150 was attempting to exit that area, crossing the railroad tracks, and failed to yield the right of way to an oncoming train.”
