Tragedy has struck seven different U.S. high school athlete families this week.
Seven U.S. high school athletes have been killed in tragic accidents this week. The friends and family members of the seven U.S. high school athletes are mourning their losses this weekend, heading into Super Bowl 60.
It's heartbreaking.
Three U.S. high school athletes were killed in sledding accidents, while two were killed in car accidents and two were killed in a train crash.
The three high school athletes killed in sledding accidents were from Texas. Two were from Frisco, Texas. They were riding on a sled being pulled by a Jeep. Their sled crashed into a tree and they were killed from their injuries. Another high school athlete in Texas was killed when the sled he was riding on crashed into a tree.
Two athletes were killed in a train crash in Texas, when their pickup truck failed to yield to an oncoming train.
“At approximately 2:45 this afternoon, troopers were dispatched to FM 18 and County Road 243," said a Sergeant of Texas Department of Public Safety, Marc Couch. "On the north side of that intersection is the entrance to a private driveway. A Ford F-150 was attempting to exit that area, crossing the railroad tracks, and failed to yield the right of way to an oncoming train.”
Finally, in Tennessee and California, two high school athletes were killed in devastating car accidents.
Andrew Carroll, a Tennessee football player, was killed in a car accident.
"The Carroll family is deeply respected, known for their service, character, and commitment to others. When a family like this hurts, the impact is shared by many. As first responders, we see every day how closely connected we all are, and moments like this remind us that those connections matter far beyond uniforms or roles," Local 3 reported.
In California, Sierra Canyon athlete Hunter Langley was killed in a car accident.
“Hunter was much more than a dedicated high school student — he was a beloved member of the Sierra Canyon community. His classmates and teammates remember him as a bright, athletic, and compassionate young man who brought joy to those around him. Friends recall Hunter as someone who “put a light to the room every time he walked in,” the school said.
Our thoughts are with his friends and family members during this difficult time.
May the seven athletes rest in peace.
