ESPN star Stephen A. Smith doesn’t currently have a deal with CBS, but there’s speculation that he could end up on “60 Minutes.”
CBS used to conclude “60 Minutes” with a short segment from Andy Rooney called “A Few Good Minutes.” Apparently, that segment could return with one of the biggest names in sports media as the new voice behind it.
According to Lachlan Cartwright, CBS has had discussions with Smith about reviving the “A Few Good Minutes” segment. It was previously reported by Charlotte Klein that tennis legend John McEnroe was also approached about this opportunity. There would essentially be a rotation of hosts if CBS pulls this off.
Judging by the responses online though, sports fans don’t want to see Smith anywhere near “60 Minutes.”

“ESPN decided that TV viewers didn’t want to see SAS on their NBA pregame show and talked themselves out of putting him on their MNF pregame show,” Ben Koo of Awful Announcing said. “And yet, CBS feels like SAS closing 60 Minutes is something their viewers want. This is such an own goal”
“Nobody, literally NOBODY, wants this,” one person wrote on X.
“I didn’t think it possible but I think I’d rather watch 60 Minutes with Pat McAfee than this idea,” another person commented.
“Another reason not to watch CBS,” a social media user replied.
Stephen A. Smith is everywhere.
Smith is currently on a $100 million extension with ESPN. Not only is he the star of “First Take,” he occasionally makes appearances on other shows.
In addition to his partnership with ESPN, Smith signed a three-year, $36 million deal with SiriusXM. He hosts “The Stephen A. Smith Show” weekdays and has a weekly show about politics and pop culture called “Straight Shooter.”
We’ll see if Smith adds “A Few Good Minutes” to his already busy schedule.
