Six beloved high school athletes have tragically died in "horrific" accidents over the past week-plus.
Three athletes were killed in sledding accidents, while one was killed in a car accident and two were killed in a train crash.
A football player in Texas was killed in a sledding accident, when the sled he was riding on behind a car crashed into a fence. Elsewhere in Texas, two teenage girls were killed, when the sled they were riding on behind a Jeep crashed into a tree.
"According to Frisco police, a 16-year-old boy was driving a Jeep pulling the two girls on a sled near Majestic Gardens Drive and Killian Court. Witnesses told investigators the sled hit a curb, causing it to collide with a tree," FOX 4 reported.
"When officers arrived, they found both girls in critical condition. Police performed life-saving measures before the teens were transported to a local hospital, where both later died."
In Tennessee, a senior football player, Andrew Carroll, was killed in a car accident.
"The Carroll family is deeply respected, known for their service, character, and commitment to others. When a family like this hurts, the impact is shared by many. As first responders, we see every day how closely connected we all are, and moments like this remind us that those connections matter far beyond uniforms or roles," Local 3 reported.
Finally, in Texas, two siblings were killed, when the pickup they were driving failed to yield to an oncoming train. The high school football player and cheerleader were killed at the scene.
Brileigh and Kyler Dailey, students at Clyde High School, were killed.
“At approximately 2:45 this afternoon, troopers were dispatched to FM 18 and County Road 243," said a Sergeant of Texas Department of Public Safety, Marc Couch. "On the north side of that intersection is the entrance to a private driveway. A Ford F-150 was attempting to exit that area, crossing the railroad tracks, and failed to yield the right of way to an oncoming train.”
Our thoughts are with the friends and family members of all six high school athletes.
May they rest in peace.
