Christ the King star and UConn commit Olivia Vukosa can officially add another incredible award to her ever-growing résumé.

On Thursday, Vukosa was officially named the 2025-26 Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year. This award doesn't just highlight her excellence on the court, it also shines a spotlight on her work in the classroom and community. Not only has she maintained an A average, she has volunteered as a peer tutor in math and science.

"The Gatorade Player of the Year program has recognized the nation’s most elite student-athletes for over 40 years, with many going on to become national champions, first round draft picks and even Hall of Famers," said Jennifer Schmit, the senior director of Gatorade Brand Marketing. "Olivia Vukosa is among legendary company, and we look forward to seeing what she continues to achieve on and off the court."

WNBA legend Diana Taurasi surprised Vukosa with the Gatorade Player of the Year award. It's a moment the 17-year-old superstar won't forget.

"It’s definitely a top-one experience for me," she told The Spun. "I’m sure when I sit in bed tonight I’ll soak it all in and realize I hung out with Diana Taurasi all day. This is just crazy to me."

Looking ahead to her UConn career.

During our conversation with Vukosa, she raved about the culture Geno Auriemma has built at UConn. It's a big reason why she committed to the Huskies in the first place.

"I’d say the girls on my visit were great," Vukosa said when asked to name the No. 1 selling point for joining UConn. "They took me to a haunted house when I was there. One of the general managers told my dad that it didn’t even look like I was a recruit on a visit. He said it looked like I was already on the team. Getting to tell them [the team] that I was committing to UConn was great."

Taurasi warned Vukosa that Auriemma will push her to the limits at UConn, but that's not a bad thing. In fact, that'll probably lead to Vukosa reaching her full potential.

"He’s going to challenge her in ways she never thought were possible," Taurasi said. "He’s going to take her game to the next level. There’s never an easy day at Connecticut. If you’re built for Connecticut, you’re built for anywhere. He’ll make you the best basketball player and best teammate you can be."

We've already seen UConn send plenty of superstars to the WNBA. It's only a matter of time before Vukosa is on the biggest stage possible.
