Week 1 of the 2026 college football regular season is set to wrap up this weekend.
The first full Saturday of the 2026 college football regular season took place yesterday. There were some big moments. Ohio State dominated Ball State, Texas looked great, Boise State nearly upset Oregon and Michigan squeaked past Western Michigan, among other results.
But which head coaches are on the hot seat following Week 1?
Five head coaches appear to be on the list.

Five head coaches on ‘hot seat’
Deion Sanders
Coach Prime got a win in Week 1, but it was a close one, barely squeezing out a victory against Georgia Tech.
The Buffaloes are desperate for a big season, and early in the year, the struggles were paramount.
Coach Prime needs a huge season to build confidence.
Dabo Swinney
Swinney and Clemson were blown out, 51-10, by LSU. The Tigers lost the battle of Death Valley in emphatic fashion.
It sounds like Clemson will be ready to move on from Swinney, probably sooner than later.
Greg Schiano
Schiano was viewed as a savior type of hire for Rutgers, returning to the Scarlet Knights in New Jersey.
However, Rutgers started the year with a blowout loss to UMass, as Schiano is firmly on the hot seat following the disappointing defeat.
Kyle Whittingham
Whittingham and Michigan notched a controversial victory against Western Michigan, and looked poor while doing so.
The Wolverines are just three seasons removed from a national title, and Whittingham is only in his first season, but a miserable performance like the one he had on Saturday will have fans snipping at his legs.
Mike Norvell
Florida State started the year with a win, taking down New Mexico State, but it was rather ugly at times.
FSU topped NMSU, 34-17, as the Seminoles head into what should be a make-or-break year for Norvell.
The Seminoles likely need a big year for Norvell to keep his job.
