The latest additions to the long list of injured San Francisco 49ers players were off-ball linebacker Dre Greenlaw, left tackle Trent Williams, wide receiver Mike Evans, defensive end Keion White and linebacker Jaden Dugger. Greenlaw, Williams and Evans got hurt in this past Sunday’s game versus the Arizona Cardinals, while White and Dugger sustained injuries this week.
This is now the third straight season during which the Niners have been hit hard by the injury bug. In particular, their wide receiver and defensive line rooms have been decimated, and with a quality team in the Denver Broncos coming to town on Sunday, depth will be a concern.
There was some good news on the injury front coming out of practice on Friday, but there is also still some real concern.
The Niners will still be short-handed
Evans, Greenlaw, White and Dugger were limited participants in Friday’s practice session, and all four are listed as questionable for Sunday’s game, per Nick Wagoner of ESPN. Evans suffered a rib injury during Week 3’s game, but he said he will try his best to play against Denver.
“It’s my job,” Evans said, per ESPN. “I take pride in trying to suit up every chance I get. If the injury isn’t unbearable and you can’t play through it, then I won’t play. But if there’s something I can play through, I’m going to be there for my team as best I can.”
Evans is the Niners’ top threat in their passing game. Through three games, he has 12 catches for 137 yards and two touchdowns, even though he missed the entire second half of last weekend’s contest versus the Cardinals.
Neither he nor Greenlaw took part in practice on Thursday.
Greenlaw sustained a quad injury this past Sunday, White suffered a hamstring injury on Wednesday of this week and Dugger sustained a shoulder injury on Thursday.
Rookie defensive lineman Romello Height was also a limited participant on Friday due to a broken hand, but he is expected to play in Week 4. So is Williams, who fully took part in Friday’s session.
Meanwhile, while defensive end Mykel Williams was a limited participant in practice for the third day in a row, he will not play this Sunday. Having started the season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, he will be eligible to play starting in Week 5 versus the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.
