San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner is aware of the headlines surrounding team owner Jed York.
It was reported Monday that York was arrested in Ohio over the weekend on suspicion of engaging in prostitution. The East Palestine Police Department said he was detained at the Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community at 9:35 a.m. after he allegedly “arranged to have sexual activity” with a female in exchange for $140.
York was reportedly ordered to pay $1,150 in fines and was sentenced to two days behind bars at Columbiana County Jail.
“Court orders show a cell phone was ordered returned to York and $160 seized shall be forfeited to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force as part of the agreement,” WKBN in Ohio reported on Monday morning.
While speaking to the media Tuesday afternoon, Warner shared his thoughts on York’s situation.
“I mean, we’re all aware, right? I think we all have social media, so we see things,” Warner replied, via California Post’s Evan Webeck. “But at the same time, you know, I got a lot of love, a lot of respect for Jed, and don’t feel the need to comment on the situation. I think the team is kind of the same way. Like, it really wasn’t a conversation being had in the locker room. Of course, yeah, you notice it, but at the same time, we’re still hyper focused in this building of trying to prepare for Week 1.”
The NFL could announced a decision on Jed York soon.
Since the NFL already has a meeting with the owners scheduled for this Wednesday, it’s possible York’s arrest will be brought up.
“York’s legal imbroglio will surely be a hot topic at the Georgia gathering of oligarchs. It also will give Commissioner Roger Goodell a chance to seek face-to-face input from the most influential owners as to the best strategy for proceeding,” Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk wrote. “The league could negotiate a punishment with York, which would result in an announcement of the discipline and no appeal.”
The 49ers have been led by York since 2008 when he took over as the chief executive owner. They’ve been to the Super Bowl three times with him in power, but they’re still waiting for their first championship since 1994.
