The San Francisco 49ers suffered a scare following their 19-13 loss to the Tennessee Titans in their preseason opener.
49ers coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that quarterback Kurtis Rourke was struggling to breathe on Thursday night. As a result, he was sent to the hospital to undergo imaging and make sure he didn't suffer a life-threatening injury.
"They said ribs, he was struggling to breathe so they took him to the hospital just to check on him and make sure he’s alright. X-rays in here didn’t show it was broken," Shanahan said, via Pro Football Talk. "They just wanted to get more imaging and find out, so they weren’t too concerned. I don’t want to downplay it but I don’t want to overplay it either."
The 49ers have not yet said if Rourke will be ready to go for next Thursday's preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Rourke played quite well for the 49ers on Thursday, completing 12-of-14 pass attempts for 101 yards. Most of his passes were thrown to rookie wideout De'Zhaun Stribling, who finished his debut with 63 receiving yards.
"He looked good," Shanahan said. "Got the ball to the right spot, played well."
Hopefully, Rourke makes a full and speedy recovery.
