Well, the San Francisco 49ers received some more bad news on Monday morning.
Team owner Jed York was arrested over the weekend and spent a day in jail in East Palestine, Ohio. York pled no contest to two misdemeanors: disorderly conduct and possession of a criminal tool.
York was also going to be charged with engaging in prostitution, but those charges were dropped. York’s arrest took place at Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community, which begs the question: what was the owner of the 49ers doing at a mobile home community in Ohio on a Sunday morning?
Apparently, a cell phone and $160 in cash were seized from York. The phone was returned, but the cash was ordered to be turned over to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force.
WKBN First News in Ohio reached out to the NFL for a comment on the situation, and the league provided the following:
“We are aware of the matter, which will be reviewed under the personal conduct policy. As this is a legal matter, which has been resolved, we will not be providing any further comment at this time.”
The 49ers have yet to release a statement of their own. It will be interesting to see if any discipline comes down from the league, considering York did plead no contest.
Eventful Offseason for 49ers Continues
The 49ers have had plenty of storylines emerge this summer. First, the substation story doesn’t seem to be going away, especially as the team continues to deal with injuries.
Then, Kyle Shanahan got into a wreck, but there was a curious amount of time between the wreck and that news hitting the public. Then, it was revealed that Shanahan would have to miss practice with some serious injuries, and the coach admitted that he was at fault in the wreck.
Shanahan is finally close to 100%, and he’s been back on the field. Just as that storyline fades away, we get this news about York. It’s disappointing because this team genuinely has one of the best rosters in the league and should be focusing on contending this year.
Instead, it seems like it’s one distraction after another. What’s going to happen next? Nobody knows, but it does seem likely that York will face some kind of discipline.
Be sure to stay tuned as more information will definitely come out soon.
