The San Francisco 49ers are fortunate enough to have one of the best left tackles in the game.
Trent Williams, who just turned 38, is still playing at an elite level as he prepares for his seventh season. The tackle earned an elite 91.5 Pro Football Focus grade in 2025, which ranked third out of 89 qualified tackles.
So far, Williams has only gotten better with age, but we know a dropoff is coming at some point. The 49ers don't have much depth at tackle, either, which is why a recent 2027 mock draft has the team getting Williams' heir apparent in next year's first round.
Mock Draft has 49ers Drafting Jacarrius Peak in 2027

Luke Easterling of Athlon Sports recently published a fresh mock draft for 2027. Easterling has the 49ers picking South Carolina left tackle Jacarrius Peak with the No. 19 pick in the first round.
"Speaking of future Hall of Famers, Trent Williams is in the twilight of his own legendary run, and the 49ers need to invest in their future at left tackle," Easterling explained. "A transfer from North Carolina State, Peak has first-round potential with all the physical traits to eventually develop into a reliable blindside protector for Brock Purdy."
As Easterling mentioned, Williams could have a fall off at any point, and the 49ers don't appear to have a replacement ready. Peak could be the perfect guy to come in and learn behind Williams for a year before taking over.
Peak started for NC State for three seasons and will now start for South Carolina in 2026. This is going to be a tougher test for the tackle, but he has an NFL body and he's as strong as they come. Peak has only allowed seven sacks in over 2,200 offensive snaps.
Currently, the 49ers depth options at tackle include Austen Pleasants, Vederian Lowe, and Enrique Cruz Jr. New blood is definitely needed, and Peak is expected to be one of the top tackles in the 2027 class.
The 49ers haven't drafted an offensive lineman in the first round since Mike McGlinchey back in 2018. It's time for that to change in 2027, in what's expected to be a solid tackle class.
