The major part of free agency has been over for months now. Almost all of the big names have landed new deals, and teams are putting the final touches on their rosters ahead of Week 1.
There are still some quality players available, though. Teams like the San Francisco 49ers, which have big goals for 2026, could definitely still be scouring the market to look for potential impact players to get them over the hump.
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report recently identified the top free agents remaining and some realistic landing spots for them. Knox picked the 49ers as a landing spot for a former Pro Bowler.
Would 49ers Bring in Kenny Moore II?
This will not be a surprise to anybody, but the 49ers have been a very injured team recently. That trend is continuing right now as starting cornerbacks Deommodore Lenoir and Renardo Green both missed practice on Saturday.
Even without injuries, the depth in the secondary leaves much to be desired. As a result, Knox thinks it could make some sense to bring in Kenny Moore II.
Moore spent the first nine years of his career with the Indianapolis Colts before being cut this offseason. Moore was one of the best slot corners in the league in his prime, and the 49ers could definitely use some veteran depth.
“Given the lack of trade interest, Moore can only expect modest offers at this point. A team that signs him to a team-friendly contract, however, could get a big bargain. Moore will turn 31 later this month and made just seven starts last season, but he also allowed an opposing passer rating of just 87.8 in coverage in 2025,” Knox explained.
The Colts tried to trade more, but either their asking price was too high, or teams didn’t want Moore at his old price point.
“New 49ers defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus previously coached Moore as the Colts’ defensive coordinator,” Knox added.
That Eberflus connection could definitely help things. Moore would likely be interested in joining a former coach, especially when it’s on a contending team like the 49ers.
With Moore brought in, the 49ers (assuming health) would trot out Lenoir, Green, and Upton Stout as the starters, with Moore, Jack Jones, and Ephesians Prysock as solid depth. Even if Moore isn’t the player he once was, you can never have too much depth and veteran leadership when you’re trying to win a Super Bowl.
