This won't come as a surprise to anyone who's been keeping up with the San Francisco 49ers, but the team is dealing with a rash of injuries this summer.
Right now, the running back room is the position group being heavily impacted by injuries. The 49ers have the Tennessee Titans in town for joint practices and a preseason game, and they had to run Tuesday's practice without Christian McCaffrey, Kaelon Black, Jordan James, and Isaac Guerendo.
That left Khalil Herbert, Patrick Taylor Jr., and Sincere McCormick as the lone healthy running backs. As a result, the 49ers brought a few veterans in for tryouts Tuesday, and one clearly made an impression.
49ers Add Zamir White After Workout
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday that the 49ers have signed Zamir White. White was one of three running backs the 49ers brought in for a visit on Tuesday.
White is an interesting addition for the 49ers. The running back once seemed like a potential starting running back, but he was never able to find much consistency.
White was drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. White's best season came in 2023 when he rushed for 451 yards and one touchdown. In 2025, White played in six games and ended with just 32 rushing yards.
The running back's rookie contract expired after 2025, and he didn't receive much reported interest until now. There's probably not a better landing spot for White than the 49ers, though, due to the current injuries and the amount of success Kyle Shanahan has had with various running backs.
It will be interesting to see if White can make an impact in this week's preseason game. McCaffrey wouldn't be playing even if he was healthy, and it seems likely at least a couple of other running backs will be held out. As a result, White could have a perfect opportunity against the Titans.
It will still be an uphill battle for White to make the roster. Assuming the running backs get healthy, McCaffrey, Black, and James are all locks, which likely only leaves one open spot. White will have to beat out Herbert, Taylor, and others for that final spot.
