Enes Kanter, who earlier this month declared for the 2027 WNBA Draft, claims that as many as four former NBA players are now planning on pursuing a career in women’s basketball.
Kanter, Royce White and two other former NBA players have expressed interest in declaring for the 2027 WNBA Draft, as the league hasn’t fully outlined its policies on transgender athletes.
Kanter and White say they have spoken with two former NBA players, three G-League players and two European players, who have interest in playing in the WNBA, if the rules aren’t changed.

“They have all said that if the @WNBA doesn’t change the rules, they’re ready to join the movement and are considering coming out as women and putting their names in the 2027 #WNBA Draft. Hear me out; The @NBA G- League pays players $45,000 a year, while the #WNBA top players earn $1.4 Million. Those ‘men’ could earn an extra $1,355,000 a year by just identifying as women. Rules are rules,” he shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday night.
White declares for 2027 WNBA Draft
White officially announced his intentions to declare for the 2027 WNBA Draft. The declaration was signed by White’s legal counsel, former U.S. Congressman Matt Gaetz.
“As of the signing of the attached declaration, Ms. White identifies as a transgender woman. Consistent with Article XIII, Section 1(a) of the 2026–2033 Collective Bargaining Agreement between the WNBA and the WNBPA, Ms. White affirms her eligibility to be considered for selection on that basis,” Gaetz wrote in the notice.
“Ms. White further affirms, consistent with Article XIII, Section 1(b)(i), that she will be at least twenty-two (22) years of age during the calendar year of the Draft and has no remaining intercollegiate eligibility. We respectfully request written confirmation of the League’s receipt of this notice within ten (10) business days of the date above, and a written determination of Ms. White’s eligibility status, including the basis for any determination, at the League’s earliest opportunity. We appreciate your attention to this matter and are available to discuss at your convenience.”
White wrote in the notice, “As of signing this declaration, I identify as a transgender woman.”
The WNBA has not officially responded.
