The Detroit Lions released former first round NFL Draft pick Terrion Arnold amid his legal troubles earlier this week.
Arnold, a first round NFL Draft pick out of Alabama, is currently facing serious charges. Arnold is facing eight felony counts, including armed robbery and kidnapping, stemming from an alleged incident in February. He was released on $1 million bond on Tuesday, June 30.
The Lions released Arnold this week, though according to his attorney, Harvey Steinberg, the cornerback is expected to join a new NFL team within a month.

Steinberg wrote that his client has already been reached out to by multiple NFL teams following his release by the Lions. He wrote to the court regarding the demand that his client wear an ankle monitor while on home confinement pending trial.
“Contrary to the state’s assertion, the circumstances underlying the court’s decision to deny the initial request have not changed. … As the court astutely and correctly observed at the hearing on June 29, 2026, Mr. Arnold has been and will continue to be monitored by the paparazzi. In sum, Mr. Arnold is not a flight risk, nor is he a danger to the community. He is confined to his home by both court conditions and media scrutiny and anticipates that he will have employment with another NFL team within 30 days.”
It'll be interesting to see if Arnold lands somewhere during his trial
It's tough to see Arnold landing somewhere right now, given his contract situation.
"It’s hard to imagine any team claiming the balance of Arnold’s guaranteed first-round contract on waivers. The NFL could put him on paid leave before the opening of training camp, which would require Arnold’s new team to pay him until the criminal case is resolved," Mike Florio wrote.
"For now, the question is whether another team will make a claim for Arnold on waivers. If that doesn’t happen, he’ll land in the pool of available free agents. And the question for any interested team would be whether his potential value as a player is outweighed by the other issues that having him on the roster would bring to the table."
It's the NFL, though, so no matter what a player does off the field, if he has talent, there's likely always going to be at least one franchise interested in giving him another shot.
