The 2026 Major League Baseball regular season isn't even a month old at this point. However, less than four full weeks into the year, a trio of prominent MLB managers are already at risk of being fired.
It's rare for an MLB manager to be fired this early in the season, but it's happened before. Teams have made changes in April and May, amid scuffling starts, as they hope to right the ship before the summer months.
According to a report from Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, three MLB managers are already at risk of being fired, as we enter the last full week of April.

The three MLB managers at risk of being fired as we hit April 20:
- Mets manager Carlos Mendoza
- Phillies manager Rob Thomson
- Astros manager Joe Espada
Firings might not be imminent, but they are possible.
"I’m not saying they will be fired. I’m not saying they should be fired. But seeing as how their respective clubs are carrying three of the game’s seven highest payrolls — and that their owners seem capable of pulling a Steinbrenner (George, not Hal) — I just don’t trust that they won’t be fired," Rosenthal reported.
"Oops, sorry for the double negative. I’ll be happy to apologize for botching the English language the moment the owners and heads of baseball operations of the Mets, Phillies and Astros take responsibility for the poor roster constructions that might lead them to scapegoat their managers."
The Mets are the league's biggest disappointment
The Mets, armed with the league's biggest payroll, are a staggering 7-15 on the season. They have lost 11 straight games.
Only a few teams in MLB history have lost 10 or more straight games and still made the playoffs.
It's only mid-April, but the Mets and their $300 million-plus payroll could be sitting at hoem come October.
