The Chicago Bears are looking to bounce back in Week 6 when they travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons. After a disappointing loss last week, Chicago needs several key players to step up if it hopes to get back on track. Whether it’s tightening up the defense or finding consistency on offense, the Bears have plenty of areas to address before Sunday’s matchup.
Three players, in particular, could determine whether Chicago leaves Atlanta with a much-needed victory or another frustrating loss. Jaylon Johnson needs to improve his coverage, Noah Sewell faces increased responsibility in the linebacker corps, and Caleb Williams‘ availability could significantly influence the Bears’ offensive ceiling. Each player faces a unique challenge, and how they respond could make all the difference in Week 6.
Jaylon Johnson

Johnson has struggled to start the 2026 season. The 2020 second-round pick signed a lucrative contract extension a couple of years ago after putting together excellent campaigns in 2022 and 2023. He delivered a solid performance in 2025, but this season has featured some of his worst football since entering the league.
That needs to change this week. Johnson is allowing a 77.3% completion rate and nearly 17 yards per reception while surrendering a 118.6 passer rating when targeted. Despite Atlanta’s quarterback situation, the Falcons still have elite playmakers in Drake London and Kyle Pitts who can exploit struggling cornerbacks. If Johnson can’t turn things around, Chicago could have a difficult time containing Atlanta’s passing attack.

T.J. Edwards suffered a hamstring injury, and his return timeline remains unclear. Sewell is next in line to step up, and although Devin Bush delivered a bright spot in Sunday’s loss, he has struggled to find consistency this season. That puts additional pressure on Sewell to bring his A-game in Week 6.
Atlanta’s offense presents challenges beyond its elite receivers and tight end. Running back Bijan Robinson can wreak havoc on virtually any defense, making him a major concern for Chicago’s linebacker corps. Sewell must stay disciplined, recognize his assignments, and help contain the Falcons’ dangerous rushing attack. If he struggles to fill the void left by Edwards, it could be a long day for the Bears’ defense.

Unfortunately for Chicago, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the Bears struggle to get the job done on the road without their star quarterback. The backups have performed well in home games but haven’t found the same success away from Chicago. Williams could return this week, but he might not be at full strength even if he takes the field. The question is how much a lingering injury would limit the mobility, playmaking, and creativity that make him such a special talent.
If Williams is close to 100%, his return would provide a significant boost for Chicago. However, if he remains limited or can’t play, the Bears will need to get creative to support their starting quarterback in Week 6. Establishing the running game, protecting the pocket, and creating manageable third-down situations would become even more important. Williams’ health could ultimately determine how much offensive firepower Chicago brings to Atlanta.
