The 2026 fantasy football breakout running backs include experienced players ready to take their games to a new level, along with rookies entering situations that could accelerate their development. Identifying the best fantasy football RB breakouts requires weighing workload growth, receiving involvement, goal-line opportunities, offensive line play, backfield competition, and paths to larger roles.

It just so happens that last year's strong rookie class translates well to 2026 fantasy breakout players. While rookies can certainly emerge as breakout candidates, many fantasy breakouts come from running backs who already boast NFL experience but haven't yet reached their full potential. A fine line separates breakouts from fantasy sleepers, as breakout candidates should offer a safer route to useful production.

2026 Fantasy Football Breakout RBs to Target

Ashton Jeanty, Las Vegas Raiders

Jeanty produced 1,321 scrimmage yards, 55 receptions, and 10 total touchdowns during a promising rookie season despite offensive line instability and a midseason coordinator change. Las Vegas now plans to build its backfield around him in Klint Kubiak’s offense, while an improved line should create more reliable rushing opportunities. Greater efficiency would help Jeanty turn an already substantial workload into elite fantasy production. His receiving involvement, scoring ability, and continued three-down role give him a realistic path to becoming a dependable RB1 in 2026.

Omarion Hampton, Los Angeles Chargers

An injury-shortened rookie season prevented Hampton from fully establishing himself, but he still rushed for 545 yards and four touchdowns while adding 192 receiving yards across nine games. The Chargers enter 2026 with Hampton positioned as the lead back in Mike McDaniel’s rushing system and expect healthier seasons from tackles Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt. Kimani Vidal and Keaton Mitchell can earn complementary touches, but Hampton’s size, receiving ability, and first-round pedigree support a substantial workload. Staying healthy behind an improved line should push him into the conversation of weekly RB1 status.

Quinshon Judkins, Cleveland Browns

Judkins rushed for 827 yards and seven touchdowns in 14 rookie appearances despite averaging only 3.6 yards per carry in an underwhelming Cleveland offense. He added 26 receptions for 171 yards, giving fantasy owners a foundation for greater PPR production if the Browns expand his passing-game role. While more weapons around him in 2026 make that unlikely, Judkins enters 2026 healthy and remains positioned ahead of Dylan Sampson in a backfield that received no major offseason addition. Improved efficiency and a full season of lead-back volume could push Judkins from an inconsistent RB3 into dependable RB2 territory.

TreVeyon Henderson, New England Patriots

Henderson can take another step forward by earning more early-down work and maintaining his involvement as a receiver. He led New England with 1,132 scrimmage yards on 215 touches and scored 10 total touchdowns as a rookie. His 5.1 yards-per-carry average and ability to create explosive plays project for a much higher ceiling than most committee backs. Veteran Rhamondre Stevenson regained a prominent role late in the season, and the Pats added two veteran receivers this offseason, so there's more competition for targets. A shift from shared duties toward the larger half of the committee would give Henderson legitimate PPR RB1 upside, but he's a much safer No. 2 bet.

Bhayshul Tuten, Jacksonville Jaguars

An opportunity to secure Jacksonville’s starting job gives Tuten considerable second-year upside. He recorded 307 rushing yards and five scores on 83 carries as a rookie, showing scoring ability despite inconsistent efficiency. Tuten entered offseason practices with a stronger understanding of the playbook, but he now shares the top spot on Jacksonville’s depth chart with Chris Rodriguez Jr. The latter has performed well in camp and figures to earn a meaningful share of the early-down work, while LeQuint Allen Jr. adds another option to the rotation. Tuten still has a chance to provide regular flex production and a much higher ceiling if he emerges with the largest share of the workload.
