The San Antonio Spurs' fan base was dealt a tragic blow just before Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
The Spurs booked a spot in the NBA Finals by defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals. Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle, Julian Champagnie and De'Aaron Fox all stepped up on the road to keep their championship hopes alive.
Jose Luis Rodriguez III, a fan of the Spurs, was unable to witness Game 7 due to a horrific accident. He suffered a tragic injury last Thursday after celebrating San Antonio's victory in Game 6.
According to reports, Rodriguez sustained a catastrophic head injury after falling from a moving vehicle.
Rodriguez was "fighting for his life" at a Texas hospital after landing on his head. It wasn't until this Tuesday that he was declared dead.
Gone way too soon.
Rodriguez was about to wrap up his junior year at Frank Tejada Academy.
“He was ready to go out there into the world and make something of himself,” his aunt, Victoria Lopez, told KSAT. “It’s just a terrible tragedy.”
No arrests have been made by the San Antonio police, but an investigation into this situation remains active.
Our thoughts are with Rodriguez's family members and friends.
