Every year, the Little League World Series introduces baseball fans to some of the sport’s most promising young talents, and this year’s tournament is no different.
Among the players turning heads in Williamsport is 12-year-old Josiah Infante, who has quickly drawn attention with his performances at the plate, on the mound, and because of his remarkable physical presence.
Infante has been a key part of Hamilton West Side Little League’s run at the tournament. Last weekend, Hamilton (Great Lakes Region) kept its Little League World Series hopes alive with a dominant 10-0 no-hitter against Bridgewater (Massachusetts).
The victory was a historic one for Hamilton, as it marked only the second no-hitter by an Ohio team in Little League World Series history. The first came back in 1993.
Infante and Leo Feltner were at the center of the impressive performance, combining to help Hamilton shut out Bridgewater. Infante made his presence felt on both sides, continuing what has been an impressive run for the young star.
Hamilton’s offense had already been producing results before the win over Bridgewater. Although the team opened its tournament with a narrow 6-5 loss to Paseo Verde Little League, its hitters continued to perform throughout the run.
Great Lakes’ Josiah Infante Is Son of Former Pro Baseball Player
While Hamilton has received contributions throughout its lineup, Infante has been particularly difficult to overlook.
He is the son of former pro ballplayer Ezequiel Infante, who pitched in the Cincinnati Reds’ minor league system. He most recently pitched in 2011, having played five seasons in the minors and internationally.
At just 12 years old, Josiah already stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 185 pounds, according to ESPN’s broadcast and SportsCenter, giving him a physical presence that is unusual for a player his age. His production has matched that presence, too.
Infante was instrumental in helping West Side reach Williamsport, hitting a home run in each of the team’s first three games during its state tournament run. One of those blasts was a two-run homer that helped him finish with three RBIs in a close 6-5 victory over Canfield.
That production continued once Hamilton reached the Little League World Series.
In the 10-0 win over Bridgewater, Infante showcased his ability on both sides of the ball. He started on the mound and threw 2.2 hitless innings, striking out four batters in the process.
All eyes will once again be on Infante as the 12-year-old looks to help his team keep its Little League World Series dream alive.
The Great Lakes team next plays against the Metro Region on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
