It was sadly confirmed Tuesday that an active shooter opened fire on a small community in Canada's British Columbia.

According to the authorities, the gunfire occurred at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School at around 1:20 p.m. local time. The officers who first responded to this crime scene found six people dead inside the school. Another person died as they were being transported to the hospital.

The person who was believed to be the shooter was found dead this Tuesday, per the authorities.

"As part of the initial response to the active shooting, police entered the school to locate the threat," the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said. "During the search, officers located multiple victims. An individual believed to be the shooter was also found deceased with what appears to be a self‑inflicted injury. All remaining students and staff were safely evacuated. Police are working closely with the school district to support a co-ordinated reunification process for families."

There was a second location that was apparently connected to this incident where two other people were found dead.

"Officers are conducting further searches of additional homes and properties to determine whether anyone else may be injured or otherwise linked to today’s events," the RCMP added.

Overall, it's being reported that 10 people are dead and 25 others have suffered injuries in this shooting. At least two of those injuries are considered serious or life-threatening.

Our thoughts are with those impacted by this senseless act of violence.
